MATURE’s self-study training units are for those involved in teaching adults in a paid or voluntary capacity, in formal and non-formal settings where learning is a prime or subsidiary aim of the group. Training is of particular relevance to those wishing to widen participation from among the most disadvantaged seniors.
There are 8 units in the self-study training programme:

- Participation and non-participation
- Disadvantage
- Getting to know learners
- Planning relevant learning
- Delivering engaging teaching
- Making learning useful – maintaining motivation
- Making learning useful – evaluation
Units are freestanding so may be studied individually. Units may be used in any of the following ways:
- As consolidation for group continuing professional development.
- As independent professional updating.
- As part of a programme of directed self-study.
